'Living the Faith' Author Discusses New Biography of Tom Monaghan

Deeming Domino's Pizza and Ave Maria University founder Tom Monaghan

"one of the least understood public figures that we have in this region," Craig Fahle, host of Detroit-based WDET's "The Craig Fahle Show," sat down for a radio interview with James Leonard, journalist and author of Living the Faith: A Life of Tom Monaghan, to discuss the recently released biography of one of America's most fascinating and controversial business and religious figures.

In Living the Faith, Leonard follows Monaghan on his path from young entrepreneur to business tycoon to religious visionary. With extensive interviews with friends and enemies plus unprecedented access to the man himself--but wholly without his authorization--Leonard illuminates Monaghan, the man and the myth.

"[Monaghan is] a man who's done many things, and some of them have rubbed people the wrong way," Leonard told Fahle during the interview. "I don't know that people who think that Tom Monaghan is a saint are gonna love the book because he comes off as a human being who's done great things and terrible things, and good things and bad things ... I think the people who think that Tom Monaghan should be a demon, they're going to be disappointed because he doesn't come off a demon, he comes off as an ... extraordinary human being who's done things beyond which most of us can imagine."

Leonard will be giving a reading of Living the Faith, as well as discussing the book and signing copies (which will be available for sale) at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor on Sunday, October 14 at 2 p.m. Advance tickets to the reading can be purchased here.
