Two UMP titles named 2013 Michigan Notable Books

Last week, the Library of Michigan announced the 2013 Michigan Notable Books. Two of the twenty Notables were published by the University of Michigan Press: The Kirtland's Warbler: The Story of a Bird's Fight Against Extinction and the People Who Saved It by William Rapai, and The Boy Governor: Stevens T. Mason and the Birth of Michigan Politics by Don Faber.

Selected from two hundred nominated titles, the 2013 Michigan Notable Books, the Detroit Free Press notes, "spotlight stories from the Great Lakes State or were written by Michigan-connected authors." The Free Press also states that the selections were made by a committee comprised of authors, booksellers, book reviewers, and librarians.

Both Rapai and Faber reside in Michigan. The Kirtland's Warbler details the fascinating natural history of the rarest warbler species in North America (which nests primarily in Northern Michigan) and the people who brought it back from the brink of extinction, while The Boy Governor tells the complete story of Stevens T. Mason, the youngest presidential appointee in American history and Michigan's first governor.
