Staff from Michigan Publishing Services and University of Michigan Press gave successful lightning talks during yesterday’s Humanities Collaboratory WinterFest. University of Michigan Press editorial director Mary Francis discussed theDigital Rhetoric Collaborative and Making Space, two projects and initiatives that are geared towards expanding, exploring, and refining the online space where people collaborate on writing projects. Director of Michigan Publishing Services(MPS) Jason Colman covered the MPS project on the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d’Alembert. This 18th century encyclopedia was the comprehensive collection of knowledge in the mid-1700s and the current project is charged with translating as many of the 70,000 articles from the work as possible.

In addition to the 10 lightning talks during WinterFest, a variety of University of Michigan departments were on hand to discuss the variety of humanities collaboration and resources that exist on campus. About 30-40 people made their way through the Hatcher Gallery during the event.
