For what types of courses and programs did you write Goal-Driven Lesson Planning for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages? We always imagined the book being used in any Master’s-level or certificate program that prepares people to teach ESL/EFL. We know of at least one TESOL Master’s program that uses the text in its introductory methods class, for example. The Journal of English for Academic Purposes takes note of the reissue of Swales 1981 monograph Aspects of Article Introductions, now containing an Introduction to the Reissue by Swales himself, which is “as interesting as the monograph itself.” Swales’ early work introduces ‘genre’ as a concept, calling it ‘the key to the future’ in its Introduction to the Reissue. As you can imagine, coming back from participating of the largest international convention on English language teaching for speakers of other languages is as exhausting as it is invigorating. Our exhibit booth was bubbling with action all three days of the conference. Our presentations exceeded all expectations, leaving attendees to have to line up the walls of the rooms in some cases.
