Michigan Publishing mourns the loss of longtime friend and author Laurence Goldstein, who passed away April 16 in Ann Arbor. Larry’s many contributions to the University of Michigan Press included nine books, as well as serving on the Press’s faculty editorial board. Professor of English Emeritus at University of Michigan and distinguished editor of the Michigan Quarterly Review, his keen editorial vision led to special MQR issues that later became top-selling titles for the Press, including The Automobile and American Culture and The Male Body. He was also an accomplished poet and author of literary criticism, with books including The American Poet at the Movies: A Critical History and Poetry Los Angeles: Reading the Essential Poems of the City as well as the collections Robert Hayden: Essays on the Poetry and Writing Ann Arbor: A Literary Anthology.
