Look for the Press at the State of the Book book fair October 6 (tomorrow)!
This Saturday, the University of Michigan Press will be selling books at The State of the Book, a day-long literary symposium celebrating Michigan’s great writers and the state’s enduring literary traditions. The event will consist of performances, panels, and an on-stage keynote conversation with author Charles Baxter and former Poet Laureate of the United States Philip Levine. The book fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Rackham Auditorium, and the Press will be selling recent releases as well as favorite titles written and edited by State of the Book presenters Baxter, Levine, Jerry Dennis, and Keith Taylor, including:
B r inging the Devil to His Knees: The Craft of Fiction and the Writing Life, a combination handbook, writer's companion, and collection of spirited personal essays that is filled with specific examples, hard-won wisdom, and compassionate guidance for the developing or experienced fiction writer, edited by Charles Baxter and Peter Turchi
The Bread of Time: Toward an Autobiography, So Ask: Essays, Conversations, and Interviews, and Don't Ask by Philip Levine, key pieces, interviews, and an extraordinary memoir from one of our most celebrated poets.
The Windward Shore: A Winter on the Great Lakes by Jerry Dennis, which Douglas Brinkley lauded as "a beautifully written and elegiac memoir of outdoor discovery."
And Keith Taylor and John Knott's collection of prose and poetry that celebrates the river and our lives, The Huron River:
